A leading manufacturer of carbon steel pipe and tubing in Alabama operates its mills in extreme wet conditions. This caused water washout in the equipment’s grease bearings, which resulted in 90 bearing failures annually. In an effort to reduce equipment downtime, the company approached the Mobil ServSM Engineering team to find a solution capable of enhanced performance under severe wet conditions.
In conjunction with The McPherson Companies, a licensed ExxonMobil distributor, the Mobil Serv Engineering team conducted full on-site analysis and recommended that the company switch to Mobil Centaur XHPTM 462 multipurpose grease. Formulated with calcium sulfonate thickener, Mobil Centaur XHP 462 is engineered to provide rust protection in water-saturated environments and resist water washout.
Since switching to Mobil Centaur XHP 462 multipurpose grease, the company reports seeing improved performance in its mill stand roll bearings, including reduced water washout and improved component reliability. This improved performance helped the manufacturer reduce annual bearing failures from approximately 90 to 54
